Springfree vs ACON: Which Trampoline Should You Buy?

Two premium answers to the same hazard. Springfree deletes the springs; ACON keeps them and buries them under the thickest pad and the most complete spec sheet in the category. The deciding numbers are the per-jumper limit and the shape of your lawn.

Side by side

Figures as published by each maker (or the named retailer); each value links to its source. "Not published" means the figure isn't in our cited sources.

As published by each maker on the dates in the source list. The two brands measure differently, so read each row against its own source rather than across the table.

What happens at the edge of the mat

This is the whole argument. On a conventional trampoline the two hardest objects a falling child can reach are the coil springs and the frame rail, and both sit at the rim of the jumping surface. Springfree moves them: flexible composite rods sit beneath the mat, the frame is hidden below jumping height, the mat edge is the SoftEdge pad, and the FlexiNet enclosure stands on flexible rods rather than steel poles. There is nothing rigid at the height a child falls, which is why Springfree holds the only 10 for enclosure and edge design in our registry.

ACON takes the other route and does it more thoroughly than anyone else: keep the springs, then cover them properly. The 16 HD runs 140 galvanized springs 10 in long under a pad that ACON publishes as 1.2 in thick and 15.5 in wide in a UV-treated vinyl shell, with a dual-layer SafeMat under it. The Air 15 attaches its net directly to the mat, so the springs sit outside the enclosure rather than inside the play area, with what ACON calls the thickest round pads it makes. That is a well-covered spring trampoline rather than a springless one, and the distinction matters: covered is better than exposed, but absent is better than covered. The broader version of this argument is on Springfree vs spring trampolines.

220 lb against a certified 330 lb

Springfree publishes a 1500 lb tested maximum and a 220 lb single-jumper capacity, and that 220 lb figure is the same on the Jumbo Square, the Large Oval and the Medium Round. It does not rise with the frame. ACON publishes a CE and ASTM-certified 330 lb weight limit on the 16 HD with a frame that withstands 1650 lb static, and 242.5 lb certified on the Air 15, rising to 331 lb with its optional spring kit.

So for an adult who intends to use the trampoline, ACON is the only one of the two that publishes a number covering them. ACON also markets the 16 HD as having no single-user weight limit, which sits awkwardly beside its own 330 lb certified figure; use 330. Springfree's 220 lb is not a weakness of springless design in general, incidentally: Vuly builds a springless frame and publishes 330 lb (Springfree vs Vuly). The full picture on what these numbers mean is on trampoline weight limits.

Which standards each one names

Springfree names ASTM F2225 and F381, which is unusually specific: F381 is the trampoline components, assembly, use and enclosure standard a US buyer can look up, and F2225 covers the enclosure. ACON states that its frames are certified to ASTM for the US market plus CE and AS standards, and its weight limit is described as CE and ASTM-certified rather than as a marketing claim. Both are stronger than the generic built-to-ASTM line most of the category uses, and both are well clear of the frames that name nothing at all.

Anchoring: one ships it, one does not

ACON's 16 HD includes its HD anchor kit with two anchors, plus the ladder, the tools and a spring pull tool. That is the only trampoline in our registry that arrives ready to anchor. ACON's round frames, including the Air 15, do not: anchoring is a separate purchase there.

Springfree sells a Ground Anchor kit separately, four anchors as standard and eight for the Jumbo models, so the S155 needs a second order before the first storm. Two anchors on a 17 ft rectangle is also fewer than most of our anchor picks supply per leg, so neither brand gets a free pass here. Whichever way you go, set the anchors before the first session: how to anchor a trampoline and best trampoline anchors.

Warranty, part by part

Springfree: ten years on every part of the trampoline. That is the cleanest warranty in the category and it covers the parts that actually fail, the mat and the net. ACON: ten years on the frame with hardware at two, five on the springs, five on the mat, two on the pad and one on the net and ladder. ACON itemizes more honestly than almost anyone; Springfree simply covers more. If you expect to keep the trampoline for a decade, this row is worth more than any spec in the table above.

Footprint: square, oval or long rectangle

These two want different lawns. The Springfree Jumbo Square needs a published 23 x 23 ft including 5 ft of clearance per side, and delivers 155 sq ft of mat inside a 13 x 13 ft frame, which is roughly the jumping area of a 15 ft round in a tighter footprint. The Large Oval fits 18 x 23 ft, which is the answer for a long, narrow garden. The ACON 16 HD is 17 x 9.8 ft of frame and 515 lb of parts, so it needs a long flat strip and a second pair of hands. The Air 15 is 15.75 ft across with the enclosure fitted.

Measure the flat area, not the lawn, and subtract clearance before you choose (how much space a trampoline needs). If the strip is narrow, the rectangle and the oval are the realistic shortlist (round vs rectangle).

Choose Springfree if / choose ACON if

Choose Springfree if the users are children under about 150 lb, if you want the springs and the rigid poles gone rather than padded, if a ten-year warranty on every part is how you judge value, or if your flat space is squarish or long and narrow but not 17 ft in one direction.

Choose ACON if a teenager or an adult will jump and you need a published limit that covers them, if you want the spec sheet to answer every question before you buy, if you would rather the anchors and ladder arrive with the frame, or if your flat ground is a long rectangle. The ACON rectangle is also the frame we rank first for practice work on best trampolines for gymnasts.

Springfree against an in-ground frame instead of a premium coil one is on Springfree vs BERG. ACON against the other brand that prints a per-jumper limit is on ACON vs Jumpflex.

What neither brand fixes

Both of these are premium frames, and neither changes the rules that cause injuries. CPSC guidance is one jumper at a time, no somersaults, and no child under 6 on a full-size trampoline; the American Academy of Pediatrics discourages home trampolines outright. A springless mat removes the spring, not the collision between two children, and a 1.2 in pad does not make a somersault safe. Buy either one, then run the household rules on trampoline safety rules.

Where you actually buy them

Springfree sells direct and through dealers and warehouse clubs, with partial Amazon coverage by model, so availability moves by size and season. ACON sells through its own US store and through Amazon listings. Check the current offer on whichever listing is live, and confirm the model code or series name rather than the headline size, because both brands sell several frames that look identical in a thumbnail. Springfree's model codes are worth learning for exactly this reason: Springfree manuals and model codes.

What each one costs you later

On a Springfree, the consumables are the mat and the FlexiNet, and both sit inside the ten-year cover. On an ACON, the net has one year of cover and the pad two, so plan on replacing the net somewhere in the middle of the frame's life and treat the pad as a wear part. Neither brand uses a standard-sized net, so these are brand purchases rather than generic ones, which is a real difference from the mass-market frames on best trampoline replacement nets.

How we picked

Why these picks made the list

Every pick is scored from the maker's published specs, manual and warranty terms on a safety rubric we publish (net and edge design, anchoring, rated capacity, standards, install reality), and the sources behind each number are listed at the bottom of the page.

Scores are our editorial judgment of that published information. Nobody pays for placement, and an unpublished spec is never guessed upward. See every rubric and weight.

FAQ

Questions parents ask

Is Springfree or ACON safer?
Springfree removes the springs, the rigid poles and the frame rail from the jumping zone, which is the stronger design on edge safety. ACON covers its springs with a published 1.2 in pad and attaches its round net directly to the mat, which is the best-covered spring design we have scored.
What is the weight limit on a Springfree compared with an ACON?
Springfree publishes 220 lb per jumper on every model with a 1500 lb tested maximum. ACON publishes a CE and ASTM-certified 330 lb on the 16 HD rectangle and 242.5 lb on the Air 15, with 331 lb available on the Air 15 using its optional spring kit.
Does either one come with anchors?
The ACON 16 HD rectangle includes an HD anchor kit with two anchors, a ladder and tools. ACON's round frames do not, and Springfree sells its Ground Anchor kit separately, with eight anchors needed on Jumbo models.
Which has the better warranty?
Springfree: ten years on every part. ACON itemizes 10 years frame, 5 springs, 5 mat, 2 pad, 1 net and ladder. ACON is more transparent; Springfree covers more.
How much space does each one need?
Springfree publishes 23 x 23 ft for the Jumbo Square including 5 ft of clearance per side, and 18 x 23 ft for the Large Oval. The ACON 16 HD is a 17 x 9.8 ft frame, and the Air 15 measures 15.75 ft across with the enclosure fitted.
Is ACON a good trampoline brand?
It publishes more verifiable detail than any other maker we cover, which is why it tops best trampoline brands. The trade is size: the flagship is 17 ft long and 515 lb of parts.
