Editorial policy

The rules every page on this site follows, the claims we refuse to make, and what to do when you think we got something wrong.

Independence

Brands cannot buy a place in our rankings, a better score, or a change to a write-up. We do not accept payment, free products or loaned equipment in exchange for coverage. We may earn a commission when you buy through some links (see the affiliate disclosure), and that commission works the same way whichever product you choose, so it has no reason to change which one we rank first.

We rank for the parent buying to prevent an injury. The right trampoline for a 6-year-old in a 20 ft yard is not the right one for a teenager training flips, and a page says so even when that means recommending fewer products. When the honest answer is not to buy (a full-size trampoline for a 4-year-old; a swing set on a concrete slab), we say that too.

Where our facts come from

Every factual claim on the site has a source, and the sources are listed at the bottom of each page. In order of preference: the manufacturer's own product page, manual or warranty terms; a named retailer's listing when the maker does not publish a figure (labeled as a retailer source); and, for every safety claim, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission's trampoline guidance and Outdoor Home Playground Safety Handbook, the American Academy of Pediatrics' policy statement on trampolines, peer-reviewed injury research, and ASTM standards cited by designation. Each product spec on a card links to the page it came from.

We do not use competitors' reviews as a source for specs, do not copy product descriptions or photos, and do not repeat a brand's own injury-reduction statistic as a finding; where we mention one, it is attributed to the brand. Product and section photos are licensed stock images that illustrate a category, and product cards label them as stock.

Claims we refuse to make

  • Any claim of having tested, jumped on, built, loaded or observed a product. We have not.
  • That any product makes a trampoline or swing set "safe." The safety bodies we cite do not say that and neither do we.
  • A capacity, age, pad thickness or certification the maker has not published.
  • A price. This site has no live price data, so buy buttons read "Check price on Amazon."
  • A credential, trade or testing facility for the author beyond what the publisher has provided.
  • A customer rating. Our scores are editorial judgments of published specs and never appear in structured data as review ratings.

Safety guidance

Where CPSC, the AAP or a study says something a reader might not want to hear (no child under 6 on a full-size trampoline; home trampolines strongly discouraged; grass is not protective surfacing), the page quotes it before the ranking, not after. We do not soften those positions to make a product page read better, and we do not paraphrase standard clauses we have not read: ASTM F381, F1148 and F1292 are cited by designation and by what the makers say about them. The manual in your box governs the equipment you own.

How pages are written

Pages are drafted with the help of AI writing tools working from the sources listed on each page, then reviewed and published under the byline of Mike M., who is responsible for what appears. Two competitors in this category disclose the same; we think it is the honest thing to say. Every figure on a page can be traced to the linked source regardless of how the sentence around it was drafted.

How picks change

Roundups and comparisons are re-checked quarterly for discontinued models and spec changes; safety guides twice a year and whenever CPSC or the AAP updates its guidance; the injury statistics page when a newer national dataset is published; the gift pages each September. A page's date moves only when its content actually changes, and the change is logged at the bottom of the page. Rubric weights are reviewed yearly and any change is dated on how we rate.

Corrections

If a spec, a quote or a claim is wrong, email mike@blackironathletics.com or use the contact form with the page and the source that contradicts it. We fix confirmed errors within seven days and note the correction in the page's "What changed" log with the date.
