Springfree vs Spring Trampolines: Which Is Actually Safer for Kids?

Springfree moves the springs and frame out of the jumping zone; the best spring trampolines put the net inside the springs and pad the poles. Here is what each maker publishes, what the safety bodies say, and where the money goes.

Where Springfree wins

The hazards CPSC lists for spring trampolines are "falling on the trampoline springs or frame" and falls off the edge. Springfree's composite rods sit under the mat, the SoftEdge mat replaces the spring pad, and the FlexiNet is held by flexible rods instead of steel poles, so there is nothing hard to land on or hit at mat level. The warranty is 10 years on every part, which no spring trampoline on this site matches; the closest are AlleyOOP's lifetime frame with 5-year springs and pad, and Zupapa's 10-year frame with 2 years on the net and pad. Springfree also names its standards (ASTM F2225 and F381) rather than claiming generic compliance.

Where a good spring trampoline wins

Published limits. Springfree's single-jumper capacity is 220 lb on every model. Jumpflex prints 350 lb; Skywalker 275 lb; ACON 330 lb on its rectangle. A parent who will join the kids is over the Springfree number sooner than the others. Anchoring. Zupapa, Jumpzylla and ORCC ship stakes; Springfree's ground anchors are a separate set of 4, or 8 for Jumbo models. Price tier. We do not print prices, but Springfree sits well above the spring brands, often through Costco and dealers rather than Amazon. Mat per footprint. Springfree needs 23 x 23 ft for 155 sq ft of mat; a 15 ft Zupapa needs a similar circle for a similar area. The sizing math is on what size trampoline.

About the 90% claim

Springfree's product page says it is "the only trampoline to eliminate 90% of product related injuries." That is Springfree's claim about product-related injuries (springs, frame, falls off), and we report it as the maker's claim, not as a finding. The AAP's 2012 statement found that "most trampoline injuries occur with multiple simultaneous users on the mat" and that safety measures "have not appeared to mitigate risk substantially." Choose Springfree if / choose spring if

  • Choose Springfree if your worry is the springs and frame specifically, every jumper is under 220 lb, and the price tier and a separate anchor purchase are acceptable.
  • Choose a sewn- or clipped-net spring trampoline (Zupapa, Jumpflex, Skywalker no-gap) if you want the net inside the springs at a lower tier, a higher printed limit, or anchors in the box.
  • Choose neither yet if any jumper is under 6; CPSC says no full-size trampoline for that age. See trampoline age recommendations.

FAQ

Questions parents ask

Is Springfree really safer?
By construction, yes: no springs, no rigid frame edge and no hard poles at mat height. It does not address on-mat collisions or flips, which the AAP identifies as the main injury mechanisms.
Why is the Springfree weight limit only 220 lb?
Springfree publishes a 1500 lb tested capacity and a 220 lb single-jumper capacity on every model. The rod design does not raise the per-jumper number; Jumpflex and ACON print higher limits on spring frames.
Do Springfree trampolines need anchoring?
Springfree sells a Ground Anchor kit in sets of 4, and 8 for Jumbo models, with installation manuals. It is not included with the trampoline.
Is Springfree worth the money?
If the spring and frame hazard is the reason you hesitated to buy a trampoline at all, it buys that specific thing plus a 10-year all-parts warranty. If your budget stops at the spring tier, a sewn-net Zupapa or clip-net Jumpflex buys the next-best design.
