About the price line
This site does not print prices, because we have no live price feed and a stale number is worse than none. The picks here are the accessories that usually sit at the bottom of their category's price range; whether a given one is under the figure in the title on the day you buy is something the buy button will tell you and this page will not. Sizes and pack counts change the number: two kits of anchors are two prices. Treat the title as a category, not a promise.
What to give, by what they own
A swing set. Rated hangers, because the stock S-hook and eye-bolt are the wear parts and CPSC's handbook wants hooks closed to less than a dime's thickness; safety handles at the top of the ladder, which the handbook's handhold guidance covers; wear mats for the craters under the seats and the slide exit, so the 9 in of mulch stays 9 in where it matters. A trampoline. Wind stakes if you have ever seen it move; a removable flat-step ladder if every child in the house is well past 6 and the frame is 37-41 in tall. How we scored these
The same accessory, anchor and surfacing rubrics as the products' own pages (how we rate), ranked by score. Swing-N-Slide leads because it is the only maker here that prints both a load rating and a standard on a hardware part. The wear mats sit last because their published job is wear, not impact, and we say so rather than call a mat a surface.
What not to give
- A trampoline ladder to a family with a child under 6. CPSC's words: it provides unsupervised access by small children.
- A basketball hoop, sprinkler or light kit for the trampoline. They invite a second jumper or a night session; one jumper at a time is CPSC's rule.
- A swing seat without checking the hangers. A new seat on a worn open hook is the failure the handbook describes.
- Bare-metal handles for a south-facing set. The handbook's hot-metal caution applies; HDPE handles do not heat up.
