How each one is sold

Gorilla ships pre-cut, pre-drilled cedar kits to your driveway. You get a model name, a price, an assembly manual and a weekend of work with a second adult; parts are orderable afterwards, and the company sells its own hangers and stakes. That distribution model is why Gorilla can publish exact specs: every Chateau is the same Chateau.

Rainbow sells through showrooms and dealers, and most sets are professionally installed. Configuration is the point: deck heights, slide types, roofs and towers are chosen per customer, which is why the website leads with a 3D builder and a request-a-price form rather than a spec sheet. It is also why comparing a Rainbow to a kit set takes work, and why buyers report price ranges rather than prices.

Two consequences follow for anyone weighing the two. First, the Rainbow purchase includes labour and a site survey, which is worth real money if your yard slopes: Rainbow's A-frame is built as an equilateral triangle with three connection points and is described as adjustable for unlevel ground (swing set on a slope explains why that matters). Second, the Gorilla purchase is the one you can actually price against the rest of this site, which is why it appears in our rankings and Rainbow, until now, did not.

What each brand publishes, and does not

Gorilla publishes a total weight capacity (800 lb on the Chateau and Navigator), the framing and beam dimensions (4 x 4 and 4 x 6), the deck height, and a warranty split of 10 years on lumber and one year on accessories. It does not publish a per-swing rating, and its ground stakes are sold in pairs rather than included.

Rainbow publishes the structural approach in detail: 4 x 4 and 4 x 6 timbers, 2 x 3 safety rails, half-inch thru-bolt hardware, a swing beam thru-bolted with four carriage bolts to a heavy-gauge steel mounting plate, commercial-grade swing hangers with acetal bushings, and a lifetime warranty on the structural integrity of the lumber, the slides and that hardware. It does not publish a weight capacity for any residential set, and its standards language names ASTM only for its commercial line.

That asymmetry is the whole comparison. Neither result should be read as a claim about which timber is stronger: it is a claim about which company will tell you what its set holds.

Choose Gorilla if you want to compare models on paper, build it yourself, order replacement parts online, and know the weight rating before you buy. Ask the dealer two questions before signing: what the set is rated to hold, and which ASTM standard the residential range is built to. If the answers come back verbally, get them in writing, because the warranty document you can read covers structure rather than capacity. And whichever brand wins, the surfacing under it is still yours to buy (best playground mulch and surfacing) and the use zone is still 6 ft in every direction (swing set safety zone).
